In normal circumstances, you should not have to add drivers into your system. If

you add new hardware then the appropriate drivers should be automatically

selected unless you are running a non-generic kernel (that is, if you have built

your own non-generic kernel in order to trim the device support to a minimum).

non-generic kernels

If you are running a non-generic kernel, you need to download the kernel source

code for the release you have installed (or install a package that contains it).

Configure the kernel by following the instructions under "/usr/src/linux" and reboot

to have an OS that includes the new driver. See the answer to the question "How

do I know what tape drivers I am using at the moment, and what drivers do I need

for running tape backups?" for further details.

No other configuration should be necessary. However, if you find that have no

SCSI tape device files (/dev/[n]st*) then you may need to rerun the command:

/dev/MAKEDEV all
