Software Licensing
The number of servers enabled for protection is controlled by the licenses added. There are no licenses
required for the protection of machines running Windows XP, Vista and 7 operating systems. The software
includes an embedded evaluation license which activates the product in evaluation mode for 60 days from
the installation of the first machine in the Data Protector Express Backup Domain. In evaluation mode up to
10 servers can be protected. When a permanent license key(s) is entered, the number of servers enabled
for protection depends upon the number and type of license key(s) entered. The permanent license key(s)
can be entered at any time during or after the 60 day evaluation period. All jobs, settings and logs created
during the evaluation period are maintained when the permanent license key(s) is added. If no permanent
license is added the software ceases to work after 60 days. It is recommended the permanent license keys
are obtained and entered as soon as possible.
Licenses can be stacked. This means the initial installation can include a license for 1, 3 or 10 servers as
required. To protect more servers, additional licenses for 1, 3 or 10 servers are stacked on top of the initial
license. For example stacking a 3 server pack license (TC331BAE) on top of a 1 server pack license
(TC330BAE) enables all the functionality of Data Protector Express for 4 servers.
License key redemption,
management and entry
Data Protector Express license keys are administered through an the HP License Key Delivery Service at
http://www.webware.hp.com
. Each eDelivery or media kit product includes a License Key Entitlement
Certificate. This contains an Order Number that is exchanged for a license key to enable protection for the
number of server licenses purchased. Once the license key has been obtained it is essential to store it
securely since it cannot be replaced.
HP Passport is required
for the HP License Key
