Troubleshooting Examples for MSMM GUI
Troubleshooting Examples for MSMM GUI
Example 1
PROBLEM:
The MSMM Server GUI will not connect to my silo...
SOLUTION:
Possible Reason #1:
This could be an MSMM configuration issue. Issue a 'RUN CONFIG' from the
subvolume that the MSMM Server is installed in. Once the password is entered, issue
a 'VIEW_CONFIG' to see the port that is configured for MSMM, the silo name, and the
system controlling the silo. Start the GUI and make sure that these all match up
correctly with what is entered in the MSMM GUI configuration.
Possible Reason #2:
A TCP/IP problem with the port that is being used. Issue an 'SCF STATUS PROCESS
$ZB01A'. There should be an entry in the listing of the PORT # you are using for the
MSMM Server and the status should be TCP ESTAB. This will show the MSMM
process's are talking to TCP/IP. If the port status shows TCP-WAIT or TCP-FIN, then
there is a problem with connectivity and the port will have to timeout on it's own after
about 5 minutes. Start the MSMM GUI. In the configuration fields of the silo, system,
and port should match what was shown in the VIEW_CONFIG. The TCP/IP number
should equal the TCP/IP process name that MSMM uses to start. You can verify this
by issuing the following command. SCF INFO SUBNET <tcpip process>. The info you
need to verify is the #SN1 IPADDRESS. That number should equal the IP NUMBER
that is entered in the GUI configuration.
Possible Reason #3:
It could be a security issue on the workstation. Make sure you have at least Power
User rights on the Windows NT or 2000 workstation.
Example 2
PROBLEM:
I am having problems connecting the MSMM Client GUI...
SOLUTION:
Issue a 'RUN CONFIG' in both the Server and Client MSMM subvolumes, once the
password is entered, issue a 'VIEW_CONFIG'; check your host and client port
numbers and make sure they are at least 10 ports apart, i.e. HOST = 4001, CLIENT =
4011.
