DescriptionItems
The Quick Format operation resumes if you turn the power back on.Storage system is powered
off and then you turn the
power back on.
• Quick Format cannot be executed on external volumes, virtual volumes, system disks,
journal volumes of XP Continuous Access Journal, and quorum disks.
• The XP Auto LUN feature or the QuickRestore feature cannot be applied to volumes
undergoing Quick Format. When you use RAID Manager to execute the volume
migration operation or the QuickRestore operation on volumes undergoing Quick
Format, EX_CMDRJE will be reported to RAID Manager. In this case, check the volume
status with Remote Web Console. For more information about XP Auto LUN, see the
HP StorageWorks XP24000/XP20000 Auto LUN Software User Guide.
• The prestaging feature of Cache Residency Manager cannot be applied to volumes
undergoing Quick Format.

The Quick Format feature allows you to format a volume in the background while I/O operations
are being performed from a host. The required time for quick formatting might drastically differ
depending on the number of I/O operations from a host, and other conditions. Table 22 (page
83) indicates the estimated required time for quick formatting when no I/O operation is performed
from a host.

• Table 22 (page 83) indicates the required time when you execute quick formatting on all the
areas in a parity group. When you execute quick formatting on some volumes in a parity
group, the required time may be less than the time indicated in Table 22 (page 83).
• If an I/O operation is performed from a host, the required time might be five times as long
as or longer than the required time shown in Table 22 (page 83).
• When you execute quick formatting on multiple parity groups, the required time may be longer
than the required time shown in Table 22 (page 83). Formatting 15 parity groups requires
twice as much time, and formatting 30 parity groups requires three times as much time as
shown in Table 22 (page 83).
