CAUTION: Operations in this pane must be performed only on external volumes with data areas that are

zero-formatted.

• Target ExG: External volume groups containing volumes to be made usable.

• ExG: External volume group numbers

• External Storage: Information about external disk arrays

• Add button: Moves external volume groups selected in the Candidate ExG list to the Target ExG list.

• Delete button: Moves external volume groups selected in the Target ExG list to the Candidate ExG list.

• Candidate ExG: List of external volume groups.

• ExG: External volume group numbers

• External Storage: Information about external disk arrays

• OK button: Applies settings in the Write to Control Blocks pane to the Volume Management main pane,

and closes the Write to Control Blocks pane.

• Cancel button: Cancels settings in the Write to Control Blocks pane, and closes the Write to Control

Blocks pane.

Making external mainframe volumes usable

To use external volumes with the XP10000/XP12000, you must usually use External Storage XP to perform

external volume mapping, and then use Volume Management’s Format or Format All command to format

the volumes (see ”Formatting LDEVs” on page 71). However, when you format external mainframe volumes

in this way, the formatting operation might take a lot of time.

If you use the following procedure, you can make external mainframe volumes usable more quickly.

CAUTION: Only storage administrators can perform the following operation. Storage partition

administrators cannot perform this operation.

1. Zero-format external mainframe volumes.
