"FoxPro", and although "FoxPro" is no longer offered, "Filemaker" is built on
"FoxPro". One attendee will provide us with information on a free PHP database
that is web-based but can be used on a local machine also.
Jon mentioned that it is important to keep Flash updated if you are playing
Farmville. There was a discussion of Flash. Sherry read that when the viral
attacks on Internet Explorer declined, the attacks against Adobe products
increased.
Jon related a slow computer problem caused by "Bing" and the "Bing Toolbar".
He checked resources and found it was taking up 30% of the CPU cycles.. Jon
had to remove both "Bing and Bing Toolbar" in the "Add& Remove Software".
Someone mentioned that the problem with Bing is even worse if you have
Google as your default search engine.
Sherry said to check what toolbars are running in IE and Firefox and don't just
disable, but remove them in order to stop their always-on processes from
running.
Sherry heard that IE 10 on the Metro interface of Windows 8 would have no plug-
in extensions. She believed that Microsoft would support the Metro interface to
the detriment of the original "Desktop" interface of "Windows".
Jon mentioned that none of the casinos in Las Vegas run "Windows" for their
internal client/server networks. Members were unsure if they ran Linux or Unix.
Sherry related that she put a client on "Webex Weboffice".
Attendees stated that there were too many problems with "OpenOffice.org" and
"LibraOffice" with their default file extensions when users send these files to
"Microsoft Office" users. Danny Hollingsworth agreed that you must configure the
system immediately to default to the "MS format", right after installing
"OpenOffice.org" or "LibraOffice".
Sherry put in a plug for UBitMenu which helps when learning the ribbon of
"Microsoft Office 2010".
