4.1 Viewing server information

The show server command provides information on the state of servers. If you suspect that one or more

of the servers is not functioning correctly, you can use this command to determine which servers are running,

and what services they are providing.

The server states are described in Table 4-1.

To view the status of all servers in the system, enter the show server command as shown in the following

example:

sfs> show server

In this example, the output provides the following information:

• The power to the MDS server (south2) is turned off, and the MDS service (mds1) has failed over to

the administration server.

• The administration server (south1) is serving both the administration and the MDS services.

• One of the Object Storage Servers (south4) is down. However, the power to the server is still on; this

indicates that the server has hung or is in the process of being shut down.

• The OST services from south4 are being served by south3. (These servers are configured as a

server pair, with shared access to storage).

State Description

booting The power to the server has just been turned on, and the server is booting. This is a

temporary state. If the server does not respond after three minutes, it will be marked with

the status down.

disabled The server is disabled and no services are running on the server. To enable the server,

shut it down, enter the enable server server_name command, and then boot the

server.

down The server has shut down, or is not responding, or has ceased to be a member of the

system.

not-configured • The server has not completed the configuration process, or

• A system parameter has been changed for a previously configured server.

If certain system parameters (such as the Start IP address of an interconnect) are

changed, the servers are using an actual configuration that differs from the parameters

in the database. To indicate this, the system changes the state on each server to

not-configured. See Section 4.1.1 for more information.

(You can use the show server server_name command to determine the

configuration status of a server.

not-responding The server is not responding. This is a temporary state, and the state usually changes to

down (or, in some exceptional cases, to running) within a short time.

power-off The power to the server is turned off.

running The server has completed the booting process, is a member of the system, and is running

normally.

unknown This is a temporary state that only occurs immediately after the monitoring daemon

(hplsmond) is started. The state soon changes to one of the other states.
