Working with Container
Attributes
A container is a logical disk created from freespace and made up of
one or more partitions on one or more physical disks. A container
can span multiple physical disks and can be larger than any one of
the physical disks. See the Flexible Array Storage Tool Users Guide for
a discussion of container concepts.
Before you can work with containers, you must have previously
opened the controller. See Opening and Closing a Controller in
Chapter 3, for a description of how to open a controller. In addition,
you must have initialized your disk or disks to prepare them for
container operations. See Working with Disks in Chapter 4 for a
description of how to initialize a disk.
This chapter explains how to use the CLI to manage container
attributes. Container attributes are characteristics of a container that
you administer or display using the CLI. The following sections
describe how to display, and, if appropriate, manipulate the
container attributes. Subsequent chapters describe how to create
containers.
