4-20 Hardware installation: Intelligent Peripheral Equipment module
553-4001-111 Standard 1.0 March 1997
Meridian MAX IPE/IPE-E module—Option 2181
If you have obtained a new Meridian MAX IPE/IPE-E system for the
Option 21-81, the module is already assembled. It is necessary for you to
insert the module into the Peripheral Equipment (PE) slots of either the
Common Equipment/Peripheral Equipment (CE/PE) cabinet or the
Intelligent Peripheral Equipment (IPE) cabinet.
Note: If your CE/PE or IPE cabinet is not properly configured for
24-port cards, rerouting of the backplane cabling is necessary. See the
“Cable rerouting for Option 21–81 CE/PE and IPE/IPE-E modules”
section for more information.
When you remove the front panel of the CE/PE or IPE cabinet of the
Option 21–81, there are a number of slots, numbered 0 to 9 in the CE/PE
cabinet and 0 to 15 in the IPE cabinet, where the Meridian MAX IPE/IPE-E
module can be inserted. The Meridian MAX IPE/IPE-E module occupies
any four consecutive slots. Its slot placement is determined by the slot
positions of existing applications already installed in either the CE/PE or
IPE cabinets. The slot placements of future applications for your system are
also a consideration when deciding the slot placement for your Meridian
MAX IPE/IPE-E.
When the slot placement has been determined and the internal backplane
and I/O panel cables have been rerouted, slowly slide the module along the
slots into the cabinet, making sure the latches at the top and bottom of the
module are in an unlatched position, until it is firmly in place. Make sure
the latches at the top and bottom of the module are secured.
Input/output cables
Common/Peripheral Equipment (CE/PE) cabinet
Two shielded four-port cables are used to connect the Meridian MAX
IPE/IPE-E to its supervisor workstation, printers, and other peripheral
devices. Cable A (NT1R03AA) has a 50-pin key telephone connector on
one end and four DB-25 female connectors on the other, as well as one
unused port reserved for future use, shown in Figure 4-14. Cable B
(NT1R03BA) is identical to Cable A except that it has only four DB-25
female connectors, shown in Figure 4-14.
Each of the eight DB-25 connectors can connect to a peripheral device.
Cable A services Ports 1, 3, 5, and 7. Cable B services Ports 2, 4, 6, and 8.
