Problem Solution
Contamination by loose debris. Avoid contamination by ensuring that the autoloader
is installed in a clean, contamination-free environment.
Cartridges should be stored vertically in their plastic
cases. Continue cleaning the tape drive as needed.
Non-acclimat
ed
media
A cartridge should be acclimated for at least 24
hours before b
eing used, particularly if it has been
stored at a substantially different temperature or level
of
humidity than the autoloader.
Cartridge is incompatible Use only cartridges that are compatible with the drive
type.
Make sure you are using a DDS cleaning cartridge.
(See Cleaning the tape drive”onpage42.)
Expired cleaning cartridge
A cleaning cartridge is goo d for:

If the Medi

Attention LED is cleared and the drive
has
been c
leaned, and then immediately re-displays
each time
a
particular cartridge is reloaded, that
cartridge should be suspected as being defective, if it
is not
an invalid cleaning car tridge.
If
this occurs, remove the magazine and then
remove t
he
cartridge from the relevant slot.
Replac
e
it with a known good cartridge. In some
cases,
acartridge canbewornout or have been
formatted as a Firmware Upgrade Cartridge.
Any cartridge that is suspected of being defective
or
contaminated should NOT be reused in any
drive.
Device Not Detected on SCSI Bus
Various SCSI issues
Attach device to a LVDS SCSI host adapter/bus.
Check that the HBA supports LUN
scanning and this feature is enabled. See
LUN scanning”onpage14.
SCSI cable length exceeded, use shorter cable, or
remove other devices fr om the bus.
Check for a conicting SCSI ID.
Device not properly terminated. See
Installation problems”onpage 51.
Powerondevicebeforepowering onthe host
computer.
Check that the device has been powered on and
is not
in an error state.
Check the SCSI connectors for bent pins.
Service and Repair
Returning the autoloader for service or repair
If you need to return or ship an autoloader, it is important that you attempt to ret the shipping lock before
shipping. This prevents damage during transportation. See Retting the shipping lock”onpage21.
