
Removing stuck c
artridges from slots
In the event of a
severe mechanical problem with the autoloader or if circumstances require you to
remove tape cartridges, do the following:
If the Operator Control Panel is still operational:
1. Move the cartridges fro m the drive(s) to the magazines using the Move Cartridge command, or
the Forced Drive Eject
command. See“Moving cartridges within the autoloader” on page 43,
or “For cing the drive to eject a cartridge” on page 48.
NOTE:
If a cartridge is stuck in the drive and you cannot remove it as described in
“Forcing the drive to eject a cartridge” on page 48, contact your HP support representative.
2. Use the magazine removal process to release the magazine and remove it from the autoloader. To
use the operator control panel, see “Unlocking, removing and replacing magazines”onpage42. If
this processdoesnot work,see “Releasing the magazines ma nually” on page 56.
IMPORTANT:
You should not meet any resistance while removing the magazine. However, if there has
been apower failure, acartridge maybenot be fullyseatedinthe magazine slot. Ifitfeels
as
if there is an obstruction, stop. Do not trytopullthe magazine outbyforce; you may
damage the autoloader. Contact your HP support representative.
Releasing the magazines manually
IMPORTANT:
Youmay needasecondpersontohelpremovethe magazine becauseofthe size of theautoloader,
particularly if it is rack-mounted.
If you cannot remove the cartridges using the operator control panel, do the following:
1. Unplug the power cord from the autoloader.
2. Find the access holes for the right and left magazines. See Figure 17.

3. To manually release the magazines, push the end of a straightened paper clip into the access hole
foreachmagazineat the back of theautoloader. Whileholding thepaper clip,haveasecond
person attempt to pull the magazine out of the front of the unit. See Figure 18.
